The Japan Prize

The Japan Prize is awarded annually to scientists and engineers from around the world who have made significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology, thereby furthering the cause of peace and prosperity of mankind.

Each year two fields of scientific endeavor are honored. The Japan Prize laureates receive a certificate of merit and a prize medal. A cash prize of 50 million yen is also awarded for each prize field.

IEEE Photonics Society – Distinguished Lecturers Award

The IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecturer Awards program is designed to honor excellent speakers who have made technical, industrial or entrepreneurial contributions of high quality to the field of lasers and electro-optics, and to enhance the technical programs of Photonics Society chapters. Consideration is given to having a well-balanced variety of speakers who can address a wide range of topics of current interest in the fields covered by the Society. Lecturers are selected each term (July 1-June 30) with some Lecturers extending for a second term. Each Lecturer agrees to give a minimum of six lectures at our Society chapters.

Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities: Leadership in Faculty Teaching Award (LIFT)

The LIFT Award was developed to recognize and encourage teaching excellence at Ontario’s colleges and universities. This award has been given out to faculty who influence, motivate and inspire students and demonstrate leadership in teaching methods for the diverse student body in Ontario. Winners are receiving $20,000 over two years to encourage continued excellence in the classroom setting.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates should be faculty members teaching fulltime in a publically funded Ontario college or university with at least 5 years of experience at the postsecondary level and currently be teaching at least one undergraduate course
